Hola, Agave Lovers!
This week on the Agave Weekly, we're taking a look at two spirits that sit on vastly different sides of the industry. On the one hand, we find a household name rereleasing a throwback to its 19th-century roots. On the other, an up-and-coming mezcal label that's ditched certification in favor of the wild possibilities of "Destilado de Agave."
In other news, Tequila Ocho announced a collaboration with Old Fitzgerald Bourbon and Tequila Corrido appointed a new master distiller worthy of celebrating with a seasonal cocktail. It feels like there's more to write about every week, especially as we approach those warm, agave-soaked months of summer.
Last but not least, we're offering a discount! If you're interested in checking out one of the nearly dozen Arte Agave celebrations touching down across the country, be sure to use the code AGAVE15 for 15% off.
This Week’s Top Pours
Paquera Ancestral Cuishe
Paquera is the latest mezcal brand to splash into the fast-growing "Destilado de Agave" category. This spirit — which is decidedly not mezcal, at least not technically — is thick with flavors of overripe pineapple, guava and calamansi alongside a welcome splash of minerality. MSRP $135.

Herradura Blanco 46
Herradura recently went back to basics with the U.S. release of its 46%-ABV Blanco, a recipe it has been making since as far back as 1870. It's an intriguing move from one of the biggest names on the market, offering up a dry and spicy palate of jalapeño, white pepper, mint and parsley. MSRP $56.

The Encore
Earlier this week, Tequila Corrido announced that the esteemed Oscar Vazquez Camarena has joined the team as its new Master Distiller. An alum of brands like G4, Tierra de Ensueño and Enelalma, Camarena's latest position is as much an occasion for celebration as any other. Below, find Corrido's agave-tinged hybrid of sangria and a margarita, loaded with enough caramel, citrus and spice to tide you over for a few glasses.

3/4 oz Agave Nectar
1/2 oz Lime Juice
1/2 oz Lemon Juice
Float with a Spicy Red Wine like Tempranillo, Malbec or Syrah
Edible Flower, for garnish
Directions
1. In a shaker, add tequila, agave nectar and citrus juice with ice and shake until chilled.
2. Double strain into a margarita glass with fresh ice.
